We are excited about a number of initiatives and AHI activities, including:
- Publication of the 2008 AHI International Scientific Symposium on Improving the Quality and Value of Health Care oral presentation abstracts in the journal Quality and Safety in Healthcare.
- Prize for Best Presentation at the Scientific Symposium.
- Quality Improvement Research Track at the IHI National Forum, featuring the Scientific Symposium (Dec 9), Learning Labs L18. Developing Research into Quality Improvement - Session for Improvement Researchers and Users of Research, L5. Publish Your Work in the Improvement Literature, and L16. Accelerating Improvement with Planned Experimentation (Dec 8), and IHI methods oriented workshop sessions (Dec 10-11).
- Curriculum on Improvement in Healthcare will be peer reviewed by the Professional Education Resource Committee and available to members at the AHI Web site.
- Announcement of the Curricular Innovation Award for Improvement in Healthcare.
- Renovation of the www.A4HI.org web site: send ideas and/or content to sarah.e.mclellan@vanderbilt.edu or use the Contact Us button.
- Membership Campaign to enhance our opportunities for networking.
- Charter for an AHI Research Committee.
- Membership outreach, including an IHI Breakfast Meeting, December 11, 2008. See flyer.
- Multidisciplinary and International membership and activities.
Invitation to AHI Annual Meeting
We would be pleased if you joined the AHI Annual Meeting. We hold our annual business meeting each December, immediately following the Scientific Symposium held during the IHI National Forum. The theme for our meeting is "Involving Members in AHI Activities".

AHI November Board Meeting Highlights
- The Curricular Innovation Award in Healthcare Improvement will be announced at the AHI Dec 9 Business Meeting. $1,000 in prizes will be awarded.
- The www.A4HI.org Web site has a new look. Send Sara Beth McLellan (AHI Web Coordinator) your ideas and feedback, and, send content to sarah.e.mclellan@vanderbilt.edu or use the Contact Us button.
- The Board approves a new process for selecting new officers and board members that reaches out to the AHI membership.
- Involving Members in AHI Activities is the theme for the Dec 9 AHI Business Meeting (immediately following the Scientific Symposium). Be sure to attend.
- A charter for The Research Committee will be announced at the AHI Business Meeting.
Membership Outreach Initiative
- Use email and web site to engage members.
- Gain membership involvement in AHI committees.
- Conduct a membership survey on needs and services and assessment of AHI's value.
2008-2009 Membership Campaign
- Mission: To improve our social networking, capacity, and committee activities by growing our society membership.
- Goal: 900 Active Members.
- Campaign: We ask each current member to recruit 5 new members.
